About This Poem

Of What I Fear

Death I do not fear But really I won’t know Until it has come near. A spider, snake or rat Appearing out of nowhere - Who’d not be scared of that? But what I fear the most Is not those things that I can see. Nor would it be a ghost. I think that it would be To live with suffering And great pain constantly. So many on this earth Live with different kinds of aches And sometimes since their birth! I’ve tasted of such pain And known the dread in thinking It all could come again. . . I think that it is plain What I fear is when my joys Could be outweighed by pain. Then if death were near, I’d welcome it, for surely I would swallow fear. I guess when a person is suffering you can see why they sometimes say they wish they would die. I agree that constant pain in life would be horrible and yet some live with it daily. An awesome poem on a good subject. love phyl

Andrea, you have expressed well what most feel. The thought of constant pain is terrifying. I fear the consequences of too much time used in search of things that have no eternal value. As for you... You need never fear penning a bad poem. Your posts are magnificent.... Jake

A very touching poem about some of those less fortunate than we who have and are suffering such horrific illness and pain. Why do some escape and others don't? We fortunate ones can only imagine... a beautiful write Andrea! Love, Jack

What a twist you have given to your fear story Andrea making it a superb write. Another Gem depicting the realms of pain one suffers during the sufferings, when joys vanish and only pain dwells. Incidentally ‘When joys vanish and only Pain dwells’ is the Topic of my Poem yet to be completed. Great write from a skilled and seasoned pen. My good wishes for your contest entry. I have placed today the Folk Love Story and hope you would find it interesting...Love and best wishes..Ravindra...Andrea D
