About This Poem

Ghosts

The face at the window,
the feeling of dread as I tread
to the door, the mysterious welcome,
a touch on my shoulder, a cough
down the hall, a shadowy figure
in Civil War dress looking oddly
like me, blowing his bugle then
vanishing into the dark.
I am back at Appomattox,
my comrades around me
lying dead or dying.
In front of a looking glass
feeling transparent,
we stare in the mirror,
there's no image, no image at all.

I love this Keith, I see them, shadows, voices, touches ;} About two weeks ago I woke up smelling my mom's coffee, I called out Mom, like she would answer ;} I have no coffee in my house.

Dear Keith, You stopped me cold with these lines. a cough down the hall. To relate a tragedy is one thing, but to feel it and live it (or die it as the case may be) in poetry is overwhelming. Chilling. love, Kathy

Hi Keith; This is a nice poem about ghosts. It has been said that we can not see the ghosts in the mirror. Thanks a lot for this poem. lucilla

What a creepy image you paint here Kieth, I love it! As you probably know I'm the Halloween guru around here and I try and see the Halloween writes, and this one is a good one my friend! I really enjoyed this delightful display of ghosts and their aparitions! What a fantastic piece, Great Work!!
