The Footsteps That He Took

By putting one foot in front of the other
And toeing the line that’s straight
I can put my troubled past in the mirror
Headed toward a future I know is great

By staying on the straight and narrow
Giving temptations the complete slip
I know that one of these near tomorrows
I will be welcoming in my ship

I have faith in His forgiveness
I’ll make amends for my awful deeds
I will smoother my sins with kindness
With sincerity my heart will bleed

I can turn this new leaf over
I can change the cover that’s on my book
You can prop yourself upon my shoulder
And we'll follow in the footsteps that he took

By putting one foot in front of the other
And toeing the line that’s straight
We can put our troubled pasts in the mirror
Headed toward a future we know is great
