Autumn Longing
Tiny fingers of cold fold
curtains back, sneak in stealthily.
Tickle an exposed toe or two,
Run fingers where flesh is free.
Summer rages on with bright fire,
bringing sweat just after dawning...
Before day is over and done,
when weary faces are yawning.
Anticipation dances
in me, for the cool days to come.
When there will be a hazy cowl
to cover the merciless sun.
Golden leaves, and red and gold
will cover lawns for children’s play.
Gardens bring forth their harvest
with healthy food to store away.
Even the Autumn of my life
falls easily on my aging times.
As I, too, experience growth...
in more benevolent fall climes.
