About This Poem
Stitchin Blues
Stitchin’ Blues
Sad woman sittin’
by a window sill.
Sad woman knittin’ time -
time to kill.
Oh my Jesus.
Has a husband
he’s in prison,
killed her lover -
he ain’t risen.
Oh my! Jesus
gave her freedom,
loosed the chains,
forgave them all,
OUR GOD REIGNS!
OH MY JESUS!
But she’s settin’
still regrettin’
ain’t forgiving -
sure ain’t living.
Oh my, Jesus.
Let it go,
all one can do,
Jesus loves you;
it be true.
Oh? My Jesus?
Done is done,
end of that;
forgive yourself -
‘s where it’s at.
Oh. My Jesus
paid them dues,
that ain’t news,
so why you sing
them cryin’ blues?
Oh my Jesus.
End of song,
so she sits,
killing time
while she knits
stitchin’ blues.
