About This Poem

The Core

Finger-painted masterpieces fasten to my chambers.
A heart, unplugged, pumping creation; born of mother,
my miracle formed by faith, wisdom of labor
and sweat passed from woman to woman. I shudder
in remembrance of my own birth, meditating
on the forgotten, peeling back youth with eyes
wet with waves crashing; I hear voices reverberating
praise in a womb of darkness bringing forth cries
of life. All journeys have led me down a broken path
to home where my heart sticks to peanut butter
and jelly smiles. I build a nest of green and rest on the Sabbath;
I wear my scars like singed moth wings hoping to again flutter.
Always seeking the proverbial flame, I burn in want of more,
more of you, spinning into breath of life - my resilience, the core.

    Holy cow!! Glad I didn't have to judge this contest with so many writes as awesome as this. I've read this 4 times and each time something new paints an additional picture---the moth to the flame is such the frustrating infinity and perfect metaphor--love it!!

    Rhonda, you are obviously practicing your poetry, because you really wrote a gem of a modern sonnet, here. It is very nice to read such a strong poem -- the ending couplet only reinforces your faith even more, and it isn't pushed 'in the reader's face'....actually has a universal feel to it, even though it is a personal topic(is this even making sense anymore?? Ha ha!). This is probably one of your best poems yet.

    Wow, this is ever deep my friend, and I really love it! This is a very awesome poem my friend! My favorite part of this write has to be the part, "I wear my scars like singed moth wings hoping to again flutter." Boy can I feel that statement there! This poem sure says a lot, I loved each and every line of it too! Great Work!!
