The parakeet

The domesticated parakeet
In a claustrophobic cage
Has little room to exercise
And even less to age
For its sole activity
Is to sit around and eat
To watch its sated belly grow
Till it cannot see its feet
So it comes as no surprise
When it dies before its master
From morbid obesity
Or some immense disaster

So sad... we cage so many things we breed... we cage so many things, indeed... unfortunately, our derived 'pleasure/enjoyment' doesn't seem to breed any empathy... when will we ever learn... Terry (great poem, Jon)

Thank you for the wonderfully witty comment. And yes it is sad the way we treat animals sometimes. But, I have such a sick sense of humor and I love animal slapstick and funny animal poems.

If they got out of the cage, they would fly head first into the glass of a window. The transparency of the window often fooled them. This is a good write with good descriptiveness and rhyming.

Yes, good point. I'll have to try to be less transparent. I don't want any birds flying into me. And I enjoy your funny rhyming poems. The fun rhyming poems are what I enjoy most.

Thank you. And yes how selfish an unfeeling we can be at times to deny animals as well as our fellow humans the freedoms we enjoy.
