Sunlight sought the green and gold
Spring had lent on summer's shoulder,
Autumn pushed the weather colder
The frosty gaze of winter's glare,
Seasons change within the air;
Sunlight sought the green and gold,
The shades of flowers long ago
Of tufted pines and dusted snow,
Through untouched shrines, where rivers flow;
Amid the forest, woods and leaves,
Whispered echoes of faceless trees
A dying nation on its knees,
The sick, the weary, and diseased.
Hearts bereft of worldly wonder,
Eyes wide shut, eternal slumber
Souls are frozen icy tundra,
The restless depths that man can ponder;
Desperate cries of endless hunger,
Man is prone to listless squander
This vagabond is bound to wander,
Over desolate hills, in ages yonder.
The obedience of wayward man,
Brought chaos to these ancient lands
With wrath and fury in his hand,
Nature could but watch and stand;
To flames that licked this fraying ember,
The crack and groan of time, remember
Jerusalem is but a stain,
Of blood spilt in religion's name.
