The Old Optimist Lament

The old house is crumbling now
I soon must walk out of it and go
Love feels it vulnerability in every joint
Creakings that pain the heart so
The shingles are missing, bald as the sky
The sun tortures the roof to swell
The cold shrinks our longevity's view
But the old house is in for a terrible spell.

The old optimist lament along the way
And I figured it deeply day upon day

My knees can't climb the stairs no more
I am out of breath fore second floor
Broken windows let in the draugth
From the cupboards I retrieve no more
I can remember what in one room we did
But there's no eave for what I want to do
The old house just sit and yield to time
I soon must walk out of it and go

The old optimist lament along the way
And I figured it deeply day upon day

But then nothing is ever as it used to be
Change make us hope but did just worse
The mind's best relics are themes of history
The world is tumbling neath the curse
I have a different path to take from here
Nor house, nor world I follow down
The old house gone, I am moving up
To the mansion over the other side of town.

The old optimist lament along the way
And I figured it deeply day upon day
