The Day the World Was Shot

I was counting comets from my porch steps
When the world was shot down in a bloody fury
I began to cry before I even knew why
I felt the world shudder
Heard a nearby tree
Let out a painful sob.
I was still there hours later
After the world had passed on
They said it was an accident
The day dawned pale and very silent
There was an unbearable stillness
I was frozen on the steps
Feeling that I too was now dying
I was emptier with each passing moment
Each stroke of a second
Had brought me closer to my own demise
If it meant that I would not witness this anymore
I knew that I would gladly embrace it.

This is intense. I love it, it's beautiful.
