Carelessly I sat in the sun
Without a thought for the morrow
Enjoying the garden flowers' scent
When a small flutter caused my head to turn
And made my joy darken into sorrow
Forcing me reflect on what this life meant.
Vigilant and ever watchful
Stood a falcon atop its prey
Stripping a bloodied body with its beak
Scattering feathers with each mouthful
On what to me had been a serene day
Until I chanced to witness a scene so bleak.
Our glances they did not truly meet
But with gruesome awe I watched him eat.
