Autumn Dawn

Light congealing Like ice upon water Razor-honed edge of dawn cleaving the dark In hot pursuit Of shadows fleeing Dreams drift away… Like a guttering spark Liquid gold blades of sabre-like rays Cleaving and piercing Heart of morning mist Parting a path for a new-born day Hapless…Nay, helpless! Of night to resist Dawn’s dam of darkness So sorely breached Erodes into shards of bones white…and bleached Floods of light gouting As through broken dike Awash are farms, fields And sheepfolds alike Shredding the shrouds Of nighttime’s dark clouds What is there of Dawn …not to like?…

Great descriptiveness and rhyming in this piece.

Some days dawn just creeps up silent, but others it really pushes forth as you have described. Great write.

Hopefully you entered this one David. Beautiful rhyme scheme as usual. Last stanza is a fabulous ending. Hope to see you around here more often.

A brilliant write. You sear the receding shadows with a resplendant light! I loved the third stanza. It was scintillating! Stanza five is also palpitating! I look forward to reading more of your poems. If this for the Autumn Splendor contest, it cannot be beat!
