She sits beside me in my place of solace.
Her smile nested near my heart is all I need
to soothe the restless soul behind paling eyes
of spring. A cloak of friendship or possibly foes
encircle us in a draping sky of blue.
All have their purpose to challenge our consciousness.
Our morning visions of swaying palms bow
to touch life with fibrous fronds. Each reach within
chanting words of peace in a language heard long ago…
abiding o’er time, they brush the earth to rouse her dreams
of a heavenly union. My dreams lie awake at dawn
floating on a lake of mirrors. My dreams wait
like polished stones rubbed smooth on the banks of eternity…
Patient, she still sits beside me. Our hands fold together
on the bank as eyes search the river, ever changing.
We bow our heads in remembrance of shrouded faces
who have faded in rippling pools. My eyes open as I depart
the hallowed halls of yesterday, and I smile back
at my morning companion. Hand-in-hand, I feel her energy.
We splash gaily in the waters of our discoveries,
the serendipity of we. I call her Usha of Spring. She is all
that is bright and new as the sun rises in the east.
We skip stones across our muddled reflections,
laughing all the while. Then, we weave fronds
to shelter us from a bitter winter that will never come.
