Empty Nest - Constanza

Cardboard boxes filled on the floor, Photos gone from nightside table, Where we read a bedtime fable. Twinges as I walk by her door, Her sweet bed where she use to lay; Sits empty yet another day. Happiness, no crying I swore, Accomplishments I am in awe; Her future is a life in law. Time has gone so fast, I want more. That crazy smile and ponytail; always melts my heart without fail. Missing my daughter I adore. So proud and knowing she’ll do well but her absence still hurts like hell.
Cardboard boxes filled on the floor, Twinges as I walk by her door, Happiness, no crying I swore, Time has gone so fast, I want more. Missing my daughter I adore.

How well I know this feeling. We are so at odds with own feelings when our precious children start to grow up and away. Congratulations on a great entry. Love, Joyce

Lee, Congratulations on your placement in Andrea’s “Can you Constanza? Contest.” There were so many really amazing entries we had a very difficult time deciding. We had to go by who followed the form best, and whose poem was most creative. I spent 4 and half hours going over the poems and Andrea, a lot longer. Thank you so much for your wonderful entry Mahalo, Connie

this one is full of the feelings that many parents feel when their kids leave home (though for me, that was a very nice time in my life. haha. I was able to start writing lots of poems!). My favorite stanza is where you paint the picture of your daughter with her crazy smile and pony tail. And the last line of stanza 5 is heart wrenching. Congrats for your place in my contest.

An emotive and expressive work..That time when the child leaves the nest is a very difficult one..Good luck in the contest..Reads like winners' list to me..Enjoyed reading this eve..Your presence at my work today is very uplifting and encouraging...Fire ants are native to South America but were brought into North America where they have no natural enemies and they have really done well here..They have a stinger with which they deliver venom which is very bad and some are allergic to it..Sara

It was pleasure to read your work today. These fire ants sound terrible, possibly deadly. Sure hope I never see one. thanks Lee

Missing your daughter already, Lee? My children left home years ago. They live together and I speak to them separately just about daily. Nothing and nobody can replace a child in your house. Good contest entry, Lee. The very best of luck to you (on both scores). :)
