CLOWN

CLOWN

Hard day at the office – circus in town.
I hear the Sousas yellow, or dark Pagliacci brown
All in all I hate this one here clown,
Striding right into my space,
Hiding the other side of his face –
The hurries, the gestures,
Paint so thick it cracks when he smiles
Paint that don’t run, and this here gangling style.
He trips, goes down, frightens a child,
But the freaking holiday crowd rises, croaks, goes wild!
You think of this here kind, usually, as stubby, or fat,
But this one’s long and slim,
A phallic maypole, that damn well describes him.
I hate the cheering, all the rah, rah, rah,
Hate the noisy wildness of this insane Mardi Gras.
I gotta leave, but then I spot this tiny, little girl,
Fall in love with her four-year-old, golden curls.
She laughs, she gurgles, gasps – doll face so fragile
In spite of flatulence, headache, in spite of myself,
I smile.

LIke the very crisp wording...like the descriptive phrases...ending is a sharp contrast to the rest of the poem and that makes me smile.

My word to describe this is "psychedelic Dave, there's fantastic descriptions of the wierdos that parade their peculiarities and you describe it all so well. Have never been but you make it all so real! Love, Lizzie

wow, it was mardi gras!! When you said that , I could really picture the scene. I always wanted to see it. I really like this little window into being at the parade. By the way, shadorma is name of a spanish style of poetry. kind of like a longer haiku. my poem you had read was for a shadorma contest. the Spanish word for shadow is "sombra"

Love this Daver! The clown antics are no match for the joy and happiness you'd felt at the end. A smile to share with the reader; thank you!! Love, Mikki

The ending makes this special. I know some do not like clowns, but I could not understand why. I guess some find them frightening
