About This Poem
The Sky at Night
I lay on my back waiting for the first one to appear
Like a silver javelin hurled by Zeus to summon us mere mortals
Across the night sky they fly so far, yet so near…
As the cool air clings to my skin, I see the light, then another,
And another, silver needles darning the night sky, adorning
The heavens. Displaying their strength, confirming our weakness
I watch as they streak through space and then disappear
Once more I am reminded of this beautiful life…
