I'll Always Pick up Pennies

"See a penny, pick it up, the rest of the day, you'll have good luck. See a penny, let it lay; bad luck you'll have all the day." (a proverb from my childhood the way it was recited to me by my mother) I’ll always pick up pennies from the ground. If I chance to see one lying there, It’s an easy thing; I just stoop down. I’ll take that copper coin from anywhere! If I chance to see one lying there, whether on cement, the dirt, or floor. I’ll take that copper coin from anywhere! It matters not if I am rich or poor. Whether on cement, the dirt, or floor, that coin I will pick up, for mother said it matters not if I am rich or poor, And what she said still echoes in my head. That coin I will pick up, for mother said to take it means good luck for all the day. And what she said still echoes in my head: I’ll have bad luck if I just let it lay. To take it means good luck for all the day. It’s an easy thing; I just stoop down. I’ll have bad luck if I just let it lay. I’ll always pick up pennies from the ground. This was really cute, but something I can relate too. I don't know how or why my obsession with coins began. But what's really more tempting when a coin just sits there waiting to be picked up? I've never heard this saying before (perhaps your mom is the creator?... lol)

You said it! I always pick up pennies. For years, as a child, I didn't step on cracks in the sidewalk, or walk under ladders. Good write. Love, KOS (king of superstition) daver

Penny is honey always. If lies in pocket good luck happens at least in financial matters. In India it's called Laxmi. Where there's no Laxmi life is painful. Best wishes for the contest. Loved always, bl

My mom must have said this also...I will always bend down to pick a penny up!:) It would almost be intereting to do a study of the ones who walk past or over it. Put down a loonie in the same spot and people might see it better? Have fun with the contest!! love, Mikki

I too pick up a pennies, the same good luck vibes were instilled at an early age as well. To further enhance luck your supposed to pass it to a friend/love one, as to share your luck and they give it immediately back to you, to double your luck. Awesome write! Hugs.

I remember when someone was emptying their car's ashtray in a parking lot. The ashtray was full of pennies, and they were dumped out along with the cigarette butts. I was looking for a shopping cart, but in addition, I found seventy-five cents. They do add up, and your poem is good as usual.
