Of Rabbits and Raven

Rabbits always digging,
digging deeper, cutting into truth's marrow....

We screwed a mirror into the ceiling
of the Temple in our skulls,
jumped up through it,
discovered a world turned backwards,
sideways, upside-down.
The deeper we dig,
the higher we climb,
the rabbit hole stretches forever on.

And I smile.

An Alchemical wedding,
an Illuminated union
shedding light upon ancient footsteps
moving into the future -
a vow of: "From before our birth,
and even after death, into a new birth."

Immersions,
conversions,
inversions merging,
joining into a Sacred Shield.

We dine upon postcards of the Nativity,
steaming off faded stamps,
adding a fresh coat of colour,
chuckling at Raven stealing
the Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
O what a Trickster!

Raven drops pearls into our eyes,
tastes the sun as lemon wedges,
passes on the seeds to us.
We water seedlings with tears
of vulnerability and fading fears,
feeling shoots sprout into trees,
feeling unfolding mysteries.

The ancient footsteps
ignite a futuristic beat.
Above,
cities burn,
the world is on fire,
but the drums do not cease
as we keep jumping through mirrors.

Mirrors reflected in dilated pupils,
dilated pupils reflected in mirrors.
No matter the course,
stars shine on,
shine with souls,
souls become stars,
stars are seeds for even more trees,

and pearls continue to drop into our eyes
as we navigate the twisting burrow,
meandering along a path where Raven flies.

The opening lines by itself get me....Rabbits is plural, and usually things just cut to the bone, the marrow intensifies how deep it is! The mirror part, that is beyond clever...I'm thinking of jumping through what we should be reflecting! This speaks volume...I got to read again. A BURNER @ 1000 DEGREES!

Chris, What can I say, what can anyone say. Such a shame that more people don't appreciate poetry---but then that is, perhaps, what makes it more special. Thanks for sharing this---and I hope all is well. I bow to a master here!!!

Your poems are so outstanding (this is no exception)....sometimes remind me of a book I have by Stanley Kunitz....like his, your poems have me reading each one several times, so that I don't miss a meaning set between the lines...and still there are things I "think" I understand, but must interpret in my own way...I love that!!

Raven is my favorite poetry name. I use it in my best free verse when possible. It seems to set a mood like nothing else. Pearls do continue to drop into our eyes as we learn little by little, that tomorrow the world will still be here long after we are gone. Good poem.

*cont>> A poem about life, death and rebirth, creation if you will and how strongly love can tie people together over many incarnations. Facing our fears separately and together, out of our own Free Will, trusting one another, can breathe new life into old, outdated ways and concepts that mould us into people we were never meant to be in the first place...I love the whole Alchemical wedding stanza! You truly are an amazing poet. Quite a journey don't you think? Especially if one doesn't have to 'worry' about the outcome/destination.

Finally have some time to leave a proper comment. This is one of the best poems I have read all week. I'm don't claim to understand all the symbolism you've weaved into this masterpiece, but to me this is a fun, courageous, outrageously beautiful poem about how we are already eternal beings..>>
