what a waste
WHAT A WASTE
A wasteful society we have become
Discarding all
We use up and pollute
Sparing no thought for tomorrow
The need to conserve the bounty of this land
Has only now dawned on our
Selfish destructive psyche
A better late than never start for some
A sticking plaster on a gaping wound
Others will loudly say
The mountains of waste we produce
Are vast enough to have a post code
Of their own
We use but seldom recycle
The belief in infinite resources a hindrance
To common sense
We have forgotten that every supply chain
Has its limit
Our insatiable appetite for the new
The latest gadget
For an upgrade
Far out paces our planets resources
Or our ability to make efficient use
Of these sort after short term objects
Do we need all these accretions of life
That weigh so heavily on our conscience?
Must we aim so hard to delete our own existence?
We grasp not it seems
The laws of supply
Which state that one day
With galloping use
The well will run dry
Technologically advanced as we are
We use resources most inefficiently
Cost based analysis dictates that
New is better than recycled
That destruction is better than conservation
Policies abound but watered down as they are
By selfish opposing parties
They send muddled signals as to what
Our next generation will be bequeathed
What then when the planet’s cupboard becomes bare?
Anarchy?
We may find ourselves truly humbled
Fallen to our knees
A sad desperate sight that will surely be
Use up all
That is our mantra
Controlling of nature is man’s silly goal
A Canute he wishes to be
Efficient use of resources is a must
The modern society does however think
This is best for primitive man
Whose wants trail behind his needs
Wastefulness is the useless badge
Of a seemingly advanced society
Man’s needs are many
But must be tamed
No need to be a tree hugger to comprehend
The dire straits we are in
Malthusian revenge of the
Gods on high
Will cause us to implode
A destruction we brought to our door
Slowly we have been forced to realize
That actions have lasting sometime
Irreversible reactions
Is our end nigh?
Wiped out by flood once we
Will one day go up in flames
Global warming it seems is not
A scholarly debate
Use
Reduce
Recycle
Three little words
That have much weight
Do your bit
If we wish to continue
To inhabit this place
