Sound Swells

Dark skin sweats in a dark night
as around the fire, they drum on.
They drum their pain and their joy.
Red sparks fly birthed by the log.
Hearts entrain to flying palm beats.
Eyes closed adrift in the sounds swell.
Smack, slap, tap, ping, begin again.

White skins sweats in a dark night
joining each other in delight, drum on.
Dancers rise to stomp the dry earth.
Dreads fringe faces with coal black eyes
as golden locks and blue eyes smile.
Eyes closed adrift in the sounds swell.
Smack, slap, tap, ping, begin again.

Wow, Debbie...you're so good. Folks like you have taught me so much in the short time I've been on this site...and I appreciate it very much...I'm actually putting a bit of reason to my rhymes these days, or at least form. And I'm so happy to be able to place in so many contests. Thank you, Debbie.

This is really cool, Debs. Love how you incorporate sounds into it and the contrast of blondes with the dark skins. My favorite lines were 3 through 7 of that first stanza.

was a bit tricky to do..no word can be more than 7 letters, no line can have more than 7 words, only 7 lines permitted
