The Great Wall

Steps of stone
Guide me ever higher
It seems each one breeds another
An endless climb
Beside me is my brother

A distant land
Though I've been here before
Alien paths in a familiar land
An epic journey
Kinsman near my hand

The Great Wall
Oh, how you tire me so!
The sweat drips from my brow
But I see the Eastern Sun
And know...I won't stop now

Strangers think
Who is this man?
As I stand upon the crest
Drenched and proud, breathing from
China's air of rest

Oh, this is fantastic! Something I definitely plan to see - but your descriptions make me want to see it sooner rather than later! Based on this and your hippie story, it sounds like you and your brother are very close. There is no better travel buddy than a sibling!

How nice and so different from that wall of Berlin I wrote about. My mom visited this great wall of China on her only trip she ever took outside the usa several years ago. About the contest you discussed under my poem "in spring" I really hope you will check out that halibun contest. All you have to do is write prose, which I know you should excel at, and mix in at least one or two haiku anywhere inside the prose! Go see the contest rules!!
