The Long Road

I sit inside my leaden head
And ponder paths you trust I'll tread
But I 'll not travel the road you hold
As being the one in the maker's mold

I'll set my feet on a prison's path
And wait to witness the aftermath
In the land it leads so far away
Where I will dwell but will not stay

I pray my peace is coming soon
So I may rest under night's old moon
But my time of toil has not yet passed
And my days of youth are fading fast

So my broken body moves on with my mind
And a bit of my heart hangs ever behind
In the land it led so far away
Where I did dwell but could not stay

the last stanza really speaks to me. Though I think you mean this poem on a grander scale, I feel that way about my home state I left many years ago. congrats on your win.
