The Flood of 2011
Here comes the mighty White
Her waters rising fast
Banks are overflowing, and the time
For land
Is past
She sings a song of destruction
She moves in deady grace
None dare stand before her feet
Or look upon
Her face
Animals flee to hilltops
Seeking refuge, but finding none
They drown by the hundreds, and still
Her wrath's
Not done
I see horses in the pasture
In her wake before the town
And I watch helpless as waters take them
Away
And down
Into my city she bursts
Washing away all selfishness
Men and women stand together
In the face
Of hopelessness
I've carried five thousand sandbags on my back
My body aches and my fingers bleed
But I'll not sleep, and I won't stop
While people are
In need
So come mighty White
I'll fight until death takes me to heaven
But I'll never forget, as long as I live
The Flood of 2011
--Dedicated to those who lost their friends, homes, and pets in the 2011 flood in
Prairie Co. Arkansas.--
