A Muse's Gentle Nudge

As you walk through this misted valley,
and discover a haze, everything here surreal,
you hear a voice, one out of faerie;
 question what you believe to be real.

At a loss for words, but compelled to obey,
you sit, relaxed, and begin to contemplate;
faces appear, wild and fey,
it is you who they beckon and await.

You close your eyes in response to their call -
 do not be deceived by how things appear.
Walk with us, here in our hall,
the domain of the timeless, a world without fear.

You let your mind wander, following your guides,
and hear from within a multitude of thoughts;
locked inside for so long, where emotion resides,
they seek their release; untie these dark knots.

You strive and struggle, but to no avail.
 No, brash one! That is not the way;
here in our land, with fire you will fail -
it is only through peace that you shall win the day.

At tranquility, you make a valiant attempt,
and find yourself slipping away;
hesitant, you draw back, thinking to preempt
your loss; but: over you, only you hold sway.

You steel yourself and try once more,
this time ready for the separation;
you find distance from society's roar.
 There, quickling; you have found trouble's abdication.

Activity is so prevalent in this rushed world of ours,
we run to and fro, always in a hurry,
trying to hide the pain and the scars;
and our lives slip away in a frenzy and flurry.

Sometimes we must step back from our lives,
from these overly busy days and weeks;
allow those calm moments on which reflection thrives,
the solitude that the spirit seeks.
