About This Poem

Silent Votes

Voting Tuesday came around.
The news would tell it all.
The candidates still shaking hands.
Outside the voting poll.

The signs were still on countless lawns.
Results were coming in.
The candidates were waiting.
To find out who would win.

But when the polls reported.
All were shocked to hear.
Only five percent had cast their vote.
A first that year.

It seemed the people had grown bored.
With all the campaign fads.
All the broken promises.
And 30-second ads.

They tired of the many lies.
Thrown carelessly about.
They all refused the choices.
Of this there was no doubt.

And so they all decided.
That they would not appear.
Their silent votes uncounted.
Their statement quite austere.

I'm sorry to say that i won't be voting either. I am so disenchanted with the candidates of today. I honestly don't know what to do any more. I really like this one.

It is sad isn't it. We can't trust any of them anymore! :)

and yes, for me there is nothing so strong as a childhood memory associated with good food.

Great political statement..It seems that political candidates are just liars and immorals running in the races which is a sad statement for our country..Great work that you did here..Sara

Thank you very much Sara. Yes, it really is a sad state of affairs in our country. You know something - I wrote this poem right after hearing that the voter turnout was the lowest ever in local elections in my country. People just don't have faith in the system anymore.
