About This Poem
Have You Ever
Have you ever...
stood in a shadow humming soft sun’s reprise
grappled a cold wind shedding its sighs
danced with an angel wearing closed eyes?
tripped on a moment stumbling gently in time
listened to brilliance speaking in mime
whispered haunting, penultimate rhyme?
echoed a mourner with long plaintive cries
baptized with water reflecting night skies
sutured a bedside with love given lies?
returned to the fire your part of the flame
walked among wounded, living, but lame
invited a party hoping nobody came?
plunged to depths, raging storm tossed
savored surrender, being the lost
suffered in silence no matter the cost?
tempered resolve on the edge of a knife
feigned undaunted courage while staring down strife
sung to the dying, the sound of your life?
