A Lifetime Tradition

Grandfather relaxed
While I cleaned his grimed toenails—
He was a tugboat captain.
It was tradition,
As soon as he fell asleep,
I painted his toenails red.

LOL. I would have done the same! If this is true, what an awful tradition. I would find a podiatrist who makes housecalls. A fun read tonight...thanks for sharing. Blessings, Rhonda

It is true...and it was a tradition...his children, as I understand, did the same thing. I was taught at a very young age...of course by my grandmother. LOL It was NOT an awful tradition, though. He always laughed heartily. And he did NOT TAKE IT OFF! When he was out on the boat working, sometimes for weeks at a time, his red toenails reminded him of how much we loved him and how much fun we always had when he was home. When he died, he had red toenails, which my grandmother insisted were to be left red. I had painted them red. Granddad had been my favorite person on earth.
