Bound by Convention

I engineered an intricate design,
determined to be action,
not thoughtful stasis.
But, isolate and distant --
a preserver of decorum --
formal, unexposed, and safe --
with bounds determined
by tight, sane strictures,
I did not struggle,
could not escape nor abandon place --
became, instead, a creature
habit-ridden: a cousin
to the circus seal
that honks a horn
for fish.

I couldn't have read a more appropriate poem today. You are a great poet, Leo...will we ever see that little booklet? I certainly hope so.

So well thought Leo and perfectly translated. Before I forget, thanks for stopping by and suggesting the awake/wake change because I didn't mean it to be awake---but typed it that way!! Your poem reminds me of similar thoughts I had written about like sophistication making you a complicated fake etc. Well done on this, but I fear we will on occasion involentarily sit pretty and roll over!!!!????

sometimes rules hamper action. most poets hate them and follow them. and sometimes not often but sometimes we use them. Well done!

"i did not struggle, could not escape nor abandon place..." nicely written, filled with beautiful ironies.i doubt if you really wanted to escape from the "formal, unexposed, and safe" place

boundaries, structure, decorum. All three put strong limitations ... Habits are formulated with them. You said this so well within the verse. Enjoyed !!!
