THE LONE SENTINEL

                                     As I walk the beach
                                        a seagull
                                      a lone sentinel,
                                      announces my coming.
                                      His shrill cry beckoning,
                                             his comrades to fly.

                                      When I pass,
                                             they will return
                                       as though I'd never passed
                                           that way before.

                                       Covering my tracks with their
                                           thousand little feet.
                                         And again that lone sentinel,
                                          Posted to guard against
                                                 intruders.

I can hear those shrill cries. Gulls are my favorite birds - great flyers, great swimmers, fishers. They can do it all. Boat owners hate, though, because they crap all over boats. As I do not own a boat, I say - "So what?" Congrats on the selection. daver
