There are so very many things
that divide all humankind,
great issues under scrutiny
peace depends on what we find.
Possessing water or the food
upon which we all thrive,
give some the power to make a deal
and keep a neighbor alive.
Using artificial criteria
complicates this life on Earth,
the color of a person’s skin
doesn’t tell you what they’re worth.
Oh dear Lord please strike me blind
to inconsequential hues,
withholding judgment of another
till I spend time in his shoes.
If the hand that feeds me differs
from the color of my own,
grant me the grace and courtesy
to behave well in his home.
May we all be as blind men
not knowing black from white,
thankful and forgiving
doing what we know is right.
