fired clay

Were I a man and not a thing of clay
Were I a song and not just melody
Then all I dreamt would not be wished away
And eyes would not stare blindly back at me
Were I a season held without a day
Were I a sky without a single cloud
Then everything I held or thought or prayed
Would hide itself in deep amongst a crowd
Were I a sea that crashed without a wave
Were I a road that led to nowhere close
Then left with weary hope a sullen slave
Would then find that which I have needed most
Were I a man with dreams and broken tools
With fired clay I’d dance the dance of fools
