She has high hopes with lo expectations. Broken dreams shattered by failed aspirations.
Wanting to remain prayerful, but has finally run out of patience.
You ask, "Where has your faith gone?"
She replies, "I can't believe any more; it's just the same song."
"You've been feeling this way; baby girl for how long?"
"For as long as I had my head down and couldn't pick it up. Watching others collect an abundance while I sat back with an empty cup."
And all the while she waited,
her heart lonely with anticipation.
She grows tearful at her joy's end, but in her sleep she hears a proclamation...
"Daughter, you're weary; drifting in a sea of your woes. Unsure of your course, doubting the compass the knows. Set a sail aboard a ship built from your sorrows; you refuse to push forward on the path the current has you to follow. Now I'll take you...cut your anchor which holds you to the floor and allow my waves to bring you to the shore."
Now uneasy in her rest she feels a rage grow,
and under her breath silently answers the faceless request by saying, "no".
Then to no surprise of her own;
she finds herself in a happy place.
She giggles as she opens her eyes with the brightest smile on her face.
"Why save me now? It's far too late.
There's something I can't run from; so I gingerly walk accepting my fate."
From under her pillow she retrieves a .38
she announces her vows as herself and her partner mate.
There, in her bed - before the midnight hour
the young maiden dies.
In his cage, a sparrow - watching - begins to cry.
