Neurosis

I go by myself walking
I hear myself talking;
Then as I deliberate
On the direction of fate
That leaves me so anxious
With illusions atrocious
Invading my privacy
With the blight of absurdity.
They come there unbidden
Like troubles forbidden;
Showing their faces
In my secret places;
Peevish and fractious
Mindless and anxious
Blighting the laughter
With deeds that come after.
Trying to taunt me
To follow and haunt me.
In my mind they come festering
In my ears they are pestering
That my enemies are treacherous
My friends are ominous
And my life is dangerous.
The calamitous confusions
Bring perfidious allusions
Deceptions so diabolical
Fears that are comical
And all these do vex me
With nightmares to perplex me
While Satan sits amused
Knowing I am confused.

    What a rich vocabulary you have! Expressions like '...blight of absurdity,' '...peevish and fractious,' '...calamitous confusions,' (your occasional alliterations are so cool!) Neurosis is my constant companion, so I know whereof you speak. Well done, Lizzie!! Keith (...soup mail).

    Borrowing the US government internet today. Thanks for your visits and comments. I'm not sure how to describe the desert's affect on me. The "have you ever" write is an attempt to deviate from my usual "free verse" form. The thoughts are always flowing through; the expression lands haphazard on uneven ground. I am attempting to write a "desert" poem that describes the affect, but so far it eludes me. Funny, there are no "enemies" here, but I still look for them. Less confusion though :-)

    there is amagical thing in this that explains the title so well it is as if it has finally been defined. and i feel sympathy for the writer because i know mental illness is real. i hope your getting better.

    yep, a day in the life. "Perfidious"... now THERE'S a WORD! love this Lizzie. (it makes me quite dizzy) but to say that unparenthetically would be cheesy. So i refrain, namaste~N

    Your words describe the way the mind can spin in mass confusion, with real or ungrounded fear or amusement....we all are a mixture of every possible emotion...sometimes all at the same time. Well spoken!!

    I hope that this is not your reality, Elizabeth as it is quite a lot to carry.. nevertheless, an excellent piece, well-written with the perfect flow. Well done! Love, Annalise

    I don't know why this is being taken as adorable. True, maybe, but not adorable in the least. I know how you feel. Neither neurosis, nor paranoia nor the more extreme schizophrenia, nor any similar dysfunction is pleasant. Great job on the poem anyway! As you may know, I'm a fan of semi-structured poetry. You really let loose in the latter half, I appreciate it.  -KMD

    Lizzie, I'm going to misquote Jann Arden, singer and song writer. She said, "I'm so glad that my pain is such good entertainment." You are a fabulous poet, and sometimes I just get so caught up in your unique voice, the magic of your technique, that I don't see what's up front--the pain, the emotion. Wanted to say, hope you are well. You are a true dear. Do you read Plath? You may identify with her take on subjects, but your style is all your own. Glad to see you're writing... hugs and all.

    having perused, im not more confused, but i do like your style, unforgetting, you do it so well, with your words so compell, i love it right here in the lettering...

    Sounds like you need a good stiff drink Liz! So do I...still doing purgatory here in Egypt as they refuse to let me go. So I've been strumming & singing with the old guitar lately trying to keep myself from drowning in dismal desert sand! They're in the midst of chaos over here and I'm in the bullseye so forgive my absence but I'm blessed to know you still care. LuvU2):

    Dear Elizabeth, let me first say that I miss your poems very dearly and I have been busy with work and the ups and downs of the days of our lives. Significant times I tried 2 post comments but the Soup was down. I truly miss your fantastic display of rhyme! Wonderful touch of inherent feelings. It happens sometimes but not in all the ways of life. It's temporary game of Satan. You are always in depth, my friend. bl

    okay.... You talkin' bout you ...or me ...? don't really know how yu were able to do this, Lizzie but you wrapped it all up in such a nice little package that it all makes sense somehow. if this is about you, You aren't as confused as you think... remember the song... I can see clearly now... the rain is falling....? the nasty spirits want you to feel confused when you are heading to better places ...there is no room for them there.... really respect your ability to express the metaphysical state in this poem. You awesome girl, and don't forget it.....
