TOXIC TIDE

I stand alone on this deserted shore Its flooding toxic tide I genuinely abhor It's time; time to "Heave Ho" to a sober land With tide in ebb, I leave my bottle strewn strand And so begins a journey with no real end My sanity, my soul, both on the mend

Six months dry. I only have to pause, if ever I feel like falling off the wagon. Then I recall all the excuses I had used for allowing myself to drink to excess. Recount all the tragic losses. I have no business drinking. The good news; I really don't miss drinking. If I'd attempted to stop a decade or two ago, I would have had a yen for the social aspects of alcohol. As it is now, I have aleinated everyone from me socially, and so; what's to miss?

Isn't it a blessing when we instinctively know when it's time to take that turn, Clay? Hope your weekend's going well. Wishing you lots of inspiration as I enjoy your poems. I think I'll go read another before I take off for a while. Annalise

I enjoyed reading your wonderful poetry this morning Clay. It has been awhile since I have been reading and commenting. So going to make it short this time with a promise to try and read more often after the holidays. Have a wonderful weekend and may it be full of love and joy. Love, Carol
