Samurai Song: Singing Blade

.

slow down thoughts
watch men comb the hills
like marching ants

tiny black dots
far away, yet so near
eyes searching for prize

I am what they seek
a bounty upheld by lords
on distant thrones

singing blade
causes birds to fall silent
unsheathe destiny

perched statuesque
these feathered creatures know
the music of swords

it is singing
either die upon its edge
or cut a new song

I guess a blade will sing if it cuts the air fast enough - I've watched a display of this art and it is fascinating. Your verse gives just enough to feel the action.

I love this one, Chris. We recently saw an old b&w Samuraii film and this made me think of the grace and speed of those guys - and many congrats to you too : )

The imagery is great, but there is also a lot of restraint in it, which leaves it to the imagination and makes it more intriguing.

Troubadour of the blade, eh? I like the idea of the sound of the swishing blade - music of a sort. Love, daver

Ah ok, thanks for the heads up about the singing blade :)-- so it's those "schwing~!" (pls bear with my spelling...) sounds that I could imagine...& yeah I figured as much-- ha, knowing myself, I do stay away from anything addictive since I know how hard it is for me to stop, I figure, don't even start something that I can't stop. that rule goes out the window for Soup, though, I got reeled in here pretty bad...

I found this to be an intriguing write, Chris... I have No idea what a singing blade is or what it connotes though, but a very interesting scene just plays out in my mind here-- reading this choka of yours suddenly reminded me of this person that I knew from another site who wrote some cool stuff on samurais, and fittingly enough, he called himself "Ronin"-- & hmm could you spare me some of those magical ciggies? haha or maybe not, I might completely go crazy if ever I tried those? haha!

Heya nikko. A singing blade is simply a well-tempered Katana. When unsheathed and used properly, the subtle flex of the sword creates vibrations that can sound like musical notes. P.S. - yeah, I wouldn't even start with the magical ciggies if you already haven't.
