A Spring to Summer Romance

he was not my type
but by the time it was spring
i wore that man's ring

once he wore me down
i flowered in the garden
of his sweet attentiveness
but began to droop
in the absence of his care. . . .
July’s drought was hard to bear

that ring he gave me -
cheap like his lackluster love -
broke in mid-august

Andrea This is a very creative write. The comparison of the flowers death and love intertwines nicely. Well done Thanks for the great comment on my Two Friends And A Puppy poem

Now, do tell us all, dear Andrea...what IS a JULY DROUGHT EXACTLY? ha ha.....I wrote the bat poem for her blog bc she had my favorite haiku on there for the longest time about a fishy that jumped into the toilet. She changed the pic to a bat from a fruit tree in her own back yard. My new haiku is to go with her new blog photo...since u ~~~~Hit the top with this winning write. I can't believe all the amazing's too personal for me to write about love. Pain....pain....ugh.

A great combo of forms, Andrea, and all too often the enchantment of love fades as years pass. Best wishes in Russell's contest! BTW, Deb has asked some of us to "lengthen" our entries for her contest. Mine was shorter when originally posted. Saw your note on Jack's entry about the Banshee. Love, Carolyn

oh shucks but this sure can be very true-- I like the defiant tone you put in your last senryu...and I hope this does well, sweetie :) hugs to you-- yup my connection's funky again....

Clever use of these two forms, my friend. I love the description of his ring being lacklustre, like his love - very powerful

Love the poem; memories. You picture it perfectly; so adroitly. All those cheap rings I handed out maybe didn't mean much, but we had fun. In early romance we learn about relationships, then go on and marry the wrong person.

You capture the angst of a hasty decision with perfection Andrea. Great insight my dear.

oh well he wasn't worth it, andie... lol!.. good it just lasted for months... whooty! ;) huggs, nette

This is soooo common in relationships--unfortunately. The approach to using senryu and choka was superb, Andrea. It flows like cool air. Didn't know that there were more than one man passing out CHEAP RINGS!!! Were we going out with the same guy? ha ha. Hope u are doing great, not working too hard, and pampering yourself. Gwendolen

Hello Andrea I feel so good to be back in PS. Your romance was so short-lived in this poem Andrea! Good Luck on your entry. I need to edit one of my poems to enter on this contest. Yes, I was born and raised in the Philippines. My current romance is my cottage back there. I hope there are no snakes around my hut. I am going home soon. I am packing books, classical collection of poetries and crocheting stuff to bring with me. I hope to savor the solitude and romance in that place. Your Dad is adventurous to have married a Filipina!
