An Unspeakable Hurt

Sleeping in your crib, you were curled onto your side, A thumb inside your mouth, a blanket cuddled in your arm. Only 18 months old, your baby blue eyes so beautiful, How could anyone bruise you this way, your innocence lost, Who was it who hurt you like this, if only you could talk. You take a bottle from me and nuzzle into my grasp, I want to protect you from any more harm and pain, All I can do right now, is love and care for you with all I have, And give your medications that will make you strong again. So I kiss you good night and place you back in your crib, May your night be filled with good fairies and sweet dreams. Then Social Services will take you away when you are well, I only hope and pray that you will be safe now forever more. **A true story from my Nursing career working in Pediatrics. God bless you do the job you do and for writing this poignant piece... it certainly brought tears to my eyes. It is comforting to know there are people in the world like you who care for the wounded and nurture helpless children

Being a nurse is not easy, I do relate and the truth of what you say is not easy to bear either. Thank you for posting this -

What a lovely poem, Lee. I have of course heard of abused children but have never had one in my care. How there can be monsters in the world who would hurt a child in any way is beyond my understanding. I pray he has no lasting effects from this. I also pray that your health is bettter. I have noticed in some of your comments that you say you have not been feeling well. Love, Joyce

Congratulations on your awesome win in Deb's "Children" Contest, Lee. We don't understand and perhaps never will, why anyone would hurt a child; but can only pray for a better day...someday. And do wha we can in our world. Thanks for sharing this. Love, Annalise

Yes even those slight changes made it more immediate and there is no way to know which damaged child you speak of dear so all is well, it will speak for all children who have been wounded. light & love
