THE SUFFERING LORD

On the rugged and cruel cross
Which stood on the hill without gloss
On it with its pains and misery
Happened something like a mystery
There my Lord and my King
Was slain with much death's sting

His blood was shed like water
Just for me to know the Father better
On Him was poured the world's shame
So that I can glory in the divine Name
Him they tortured like a criminal
For me to receive the life eternal

How He struggled with much agony!
Which later became history's testimony
Himself He poured out like a drink offering
For all of the world's ills and suffering
On His body He bore the burden
Of those who are heavily laden
