About This Poem
August Morning
I lay down on the virgin grass,
And stared up at the sky.
While shaded by a friendly tree,
I watched the clouds sail by.
I tried to find my battered soul,
And feared that I had lost it,
Remembering my evil deeds,
Each which might have cost it.
But then I found a place of peace,
And felt forgiveness given
And heard the Master call my name,
And saw the streets of heaven.
It was then I humbly stood
Unbound by human fears,
I felt the Savior hov'ring close,
My bowed face streaked with tears
No worries now bedevil me,
I know my task's undone.
My heart is full of filial love.
I am my Father's son.
