Branches of Spring

In the beginning, while in the youth of life's Earth
 sweet singing robins entrusted of me;
 blue fragile eggs;
 Until time - revealed their birth

I rocked and swayed, then soothed
 to a breeze sung lullaby - Proudly I watched,
 impatiently moved - to an awkwardly new
 attempted first-winged flight
Then, welcomed them back, against the wind
as they returned and day was taken in by night

I clutched the tender red breast;
 as it's heart beat of that my own
 comfort, both we shared
 during the spring of their home

As leaves let go that part my life;
 for death; white on winter's ground
 I pre-pared; for the snow-cold hare
 gratefullness;
 for the needed warmth he had found

Dreams longed, in arms returned;
 during this frost of naked nights
 my so-loved feathered friends
 from their instinctive survival flight

Hundreds, then thousands of years
 I died, yet, still I lived; becoming wiser
 to life's truths - all of which, still are stored
in rings upon my roots
