Traces

Traces
In the wet sand
Footprints of gulls, and man
Disappear in the tidal dance
Of waves.

Traces
In the red dust
Feet of man, and horses
Up in canyons, leave no trace of
The brave.

Traces
In the garden
Of such delightful scents
In spring and summer by winter
Erased.

Traces
Of human life
Throughout world's history
However, are reported upon its
Pages.
Traces
Of wins and woes
Like hand prints upon walls
Can't be erased, for their foothold
Remains.

Got your messages Caroline and duly noted and appreciated. As far as Haiku goes, I do know that is a special art form but not familiar with it. Learned some about it by reading them by Brian Strand. (I'm not on face book) Now for this poem of yours... There is alot to like in it. I was going to point out lines that I especially liked but couldn't do it because there so many. I think it is a wonderful piece of literary accomplishment. Wish I had written it!

Nicely done. A good progression from what is erased, to what isn't, to give comparison and meaning.

I like how you express how those who lived, so many, who lived and experieneced and loved and suffered, so many. The respect you show to those is captured here. Their wisdom will be downloaded into the eternal current. Their lives and the beauty of their lives will not be forgotten. Their lives perhaps is alive in us and ready to go to the next level. Who knows, but life cannot be stopped. The traces go on, from ancient caves until now. They live and it is beautiful.

Traces of the ancient days. I have written some poetry in a similar vein. How are you going about publishing a book?. I published two chapbooks with the American Tolkien Society a # of years ago but would like to "branch out" and publish a regular book of poems. I could use some suggestions on this matter. Yours Matthew Anish
