    Ah, yes this is a very superb haiku, Chas! I really dig the end-line for sure. And you used 17 syllables too. But no extra baggage among the words, so the 5/7/5 doesn't seem too much at all. Well, this one should easily place in the top 3, so best wishes in the contest!
