A Walk in the Wilderness

fresh morning dew scintillates
on diamond webs
under a new sun rising
from a horizon's pink glow

wildflowers sweeten fresh air
as a busy world fades from
memory of traffic noise forgotten
as songbirds serenade from a distance

all is peace in soft breathing
and quiet echoes of a heart beat
as calm radiates from silent footfalls
along a quiet wooded trail

while away from a wild fortress
of wilderness and ivory towers of solitude
a world burns with alien passions
of flesh meeting steel in relentless violence

awareness dawns, stopping him.......mid-stride
on a thin edge of enlightenment

as he can hear whispered echoes
of his own death softly screaming

and answers in a whispered song
of slowly drawn ringing steel

Exceptional writing, Stephen. I really enjoyed this poem that tells of nature's beauty and man's sometimes, lack of simple love. Always, Annalise

wow, Stephen, VERY good poetry. Showing that contrast of modern world and peacefulness of nature. Just lovely!
