Drifting Dreams

They are achingly close
I can smell oil of cloves
And see deadly beauty
In living steel
Just  out of reach
My katanas crossed
Stuck in a snow ridge
Above me
caressed by blowing contrails
Of white wisps
On a background of infinite cerulean blue
A thick evergreen forest
Below
Transmutes howls of pursuit
Into eerie whispers
As I claw and crawl
Though deep freezing white
To get to my weapons
My hope
My salvation
But as I reach my goal
Cresting a frozen ridge
A marauding wind catches me
Transforming my shivering body
Into crystalline snow
And I erode away
Into shining flashes
Before fading eyes
Flying into sparkling oblivion
Without weapons, without worries
