No more tears

When you first left I could not cry
I never shed a tear
I found myself so all alone
taken over by the fear

I went for days my heart enslaved
it was more than I could bare
So hard for me to finally see
my love you would not share

Why is it when our hearts are broken
we try so hard to find a token
Just some little thing to hold on to
a remembrance of a love once true

I found a poem you wrote for me
its purpose was so plain to see
You spoke of love and life a new
It made me want to cherish you

I read it several times within
and then again out loud
It was then my heart did wither so
as if covered by a shroud

I remember falling to my knees
and calling out your name
I knew right then my life would change
and never be the same

I pulled myself up off the floor
and ventured to the door
and as I walked outside to breathe
my tears began to pour

I cried all day and into night
I had no will I could not fight
I cried so long and hard it seemed
an endless flow of tears did stream

Inside myself I went that day
contented less yet doomed to stay
I have not cried out loud since then
I have no tears left here to spend

Perhaps the day will come once more
when I may venture out that door
And lift this pain upon my heart
Reach out and give new love a start...

When I write a poem, it’s not by the comments that I allow my poems to be judged, although they are always welcome, but it’s in the reaction on someone’s face, how the words moved them emotionally. This is where the true gift of a poet comes to light, the ability to install emotions in someone else, through their own experiences. This write is very close to home for me at the moment, and I cried as I read this, thank you for sharing such an emotion heartfelt piece. Hope you are ok now? Alan x
