The Stare

I am coming out, he is coming in
I look up and see him standing.
Then the glance, that stare
which marks the beginning of the end.

Eyes lock,
my heart begins to race
My body feels warm
Sweat on my face.

Am I turning red?
Or getting a fever?
Where was I going?
What on earth is happening?

Oh lord, help me out here.
I need to look away
Don’t know what’s going on
Am I blocking his way?

Eyes still locked
No words uttered
But stories are told.

Want to stay in this minute
where nothing else exists
and nothing else matters
Just the stare
In it is where I want to live.
