Cont'd--When I first started posting on the Soup, I was one to say exactly what you are stating in your poem. In fact, I have some very similar, cynical poems like this one. But what irks me, is that the people who are against rules, will turn around and lambast me for writing my Haiku outside of 5/7/5? It is so confusing for me!~Chris

This goes to my fav, Diane

  1. Date: 9/23/2010 1:30:00 PM

yes it is poetic constipation, please refer to my poem The Rape of poetry just posted in the morning, I happily share your thoughts, Diane

This is a great poem, Diane! See, I am a hypocrite when it comes to this. I used to only write by my own rules. Always. But now I am trying out other people's forms, so I am bowing down to set criteria. This extra discipline has been a god-send to me, because by understanding the older forms, my free-verse becomes more free? It is like a huge paradox for me. People become 'freedom-fighters' for freedom of truly write from the heart--but then they will only write Haiku in 5/7/5.

This is terrific, Diane, and the last two lines made me laugh out loud. Lot of truth in your message when it comes to the rules imposed here. Love, Carolyn
