Regret 1 - Grandmother

That I didn’t study harder
That I didn’t learn to swim
That I didn’t show how much I loved her
Give her comfort when she was ill
Grandmother sitting on her velvet cushion
Marquisite brooch her bow to fashion
Black-draping widows weeds her dress
Jingling coins that she would confess
Were to be placed on “The Great McMurragh”
At the afternoon race at the Curragh

Liz, This is a beautiful write, I could cry. I miss my grandmothers so much, they were such a huge influence in my life but are long since dead. I love the velvet cushions and marquisite brooch - that was one of my grans too. I wrote about life on the Blasket Islands, I might post it now that I know there are more Irish here. It is just a nostalgic piece but would compliment my New Ireland with an Old Ireland.
