The Heavens Are Open

Heavens are open to view in the late night sky.

Celestial bodies spinning in orbit, moving

Light years away, exploding out of our sight,

Some on the same primordial path our

World once took; inviting travelers who

Roam the infinite universe, because they can!

How shallow minded to think we are alone,

To scoff at proof and stubbornly cling

To antiquated concepts of the past.

Visitors walk among us, though we

Are not aware of what we share. . .

They know the id is filled with fear and

Programmed to annihilate that which

We do not understand.

The times of enlightenment are at hand. . .

A special gift for those willing to let go of

Their egos and open their minds and hearts

To embrace the destined future.

We are not alone, and the dolphins are superior beings and 42 is "the answer to life the universe and everything". Love the part with the Freudian reference to the id, that instinctual and primitive part of us. Maybe Freud was one of them... A great piece of work.

Fine, otherworldy writing. Good science fiction poem! Have you ever read "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clark? your poem reminds me of it. Keep 'em coming! Peace & Blessings Matthew Anish

Awesome truth Connie! One in which I share your views. Foolish to think that we are alone in such a vast universe and beyond. One day we will develope our moralities into the higher consciousness, then we can be trusted to know the paranormal rest of our stories. Smile. Agape, Moses

if they find us first instead of we finding them, I do hope we will have the good sense to try to be friendly,...................but carry a big stick. Frankly I don't think it would be a contest. Probably like uzies on cave men. But your poem makes that point in a nice enjoyable way. Charles

Rarely these days do I take time to gaze into a starry sky, but when I do, I'm intrigued with thoughts about other life forms, as this poem inspires. This poem stirs the imagination. ...Wouldn't humans be overwhelmed to learn there is a larger life on the food chain that views humans the way we see fire ants? Nuisance insects often are squshed. What if some of our "natural wind disasters" were caused by an irritated life form which swatted at us? My mind wondering. A successful poem, I'd say!

Note: This poem was not written for a contest...I didn't know about the contest when I posted it.....Connie

Very true, Connie. It is shallow minded to believe we live on the only planet with life. I think some other planets have far more advanced life forms and others have only microscopic organisms. Indeed, we are not alone, but there appears to be no reason to fear these other life forms. They have visited Earth often and done no harm. There may be aliens walking among us now. A very enlightened perspective in your beautifully penned poem. Love, Carolyn
