HERACLITUS

Heraclitus!
Can we never step in the
Same water twice?
For other waters are forever
Flowing onto us!
I try to think of ways to
Cheat your wisdom.
What if the waters are frozen?
Surely then I can keep what
I never want to lose?
But a frozen stream like
An icy soul denies
And bars admittance.
Were they only dreams?
Things already past!

Nothing endures but change
You say? Then tell me man
Why ever pain; seems the only
One to stay?

Excellent "analysis" on "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." I'm quite impressed with your frozen waters...Again: excellent! Ruben.

a deep one, and enjoyable, David! Even pain does not stay after a while, at least not the intensity of it. Nice to see you tonight. LUv, andrea

A very profound, introspective write, David. I have had similar thoughts about things I touch -- will I ever touch them again, will I step on the same grain of sand twice in a lifetime? They say change is inevitable; hopefully, it will bring happiness instead of pain one day. Love, Carolyn

Deep, David, the change is just a cover up to forget the pain in some way. In my life it is up to me to deal with the change and try to mend the pain.. With the new change. Nicely said enjoyed. Thanks 4 the thought and message,..Sidney LeeAnn=p.d.

Sounds like superstition to me. A good question to pose at the end of your poem. Good write, David. Best, Caroline.
